2017 OCN Certification Review – July 2017

OCN CERTIFICATION COURSE DESCRIPTION:   This 2-day course provides an overview of the nine major content areas of the OCN Test Blueprint and successful strategies for preparing and taking the OCN examination.  The course is designed for nurses who are preparing to take the OCN examination, who need to earn continuing education credits toward recertification, or who would like a comprehensive review of basic oncology nursing.

OBJECTIVES:  Upon completion of the program, participants will be able to:

  • Describe the major elements of the OCN test blueprint and test-taking strategies
  • Discuss current issues in care that impact professional performance of the oncology nurse
  • Discuss the scientific basis for oncology nursing practice
  • Identify strategies to promote health, screen and diagnose cancer
  • Define the impact of major cancer care treatment modalities on nursing care of patients
  • Apply didactic content and test taking skills to answer sample questions
  • Discuss nursing care to identify patients at risk and monitor for high-incidence oncologic emergencies
  • Describe nursing assessments, interventions and evaluation strategies for prevention and management of cancer and cancer treatment symptoms
  • Describe nursing care to address psychosocial dimensions of cancer
  • Apply nursing process to address palliative care and end of life issues in patients with cancer
  • Apply nursing process to address survivorship issues in patients diagnosed with cancer
